A note from our founder

Thanks for visiting our Climate Action Montana website. I am Paul Buck from Missoula and have been deeply concerned about our changing climate for many years. Since coming to the U of M in 1971 there have been major changes in the Montana weather and climate. The science is in and we (by we I mean we earthly humans) are causing global warming due to the use of fossil fuels and the production of carbon dioxide which blankets the globe and helps warm the air, water and earth.

To address this most important issue we the people must take action to create a healthier and more prosperous future. As with other national causes, smoking, use of seat belts, forest fires with Smokey the Bear, etc., there are ad campaigns to keep these issues in front of the public. Climate Action Montana was created to help keep this most critical issue of climate change in front of the Montana public.

As a Montana Eye Bank Director this was certainly true with organ, tissue and eye donation. Public ad campaigns were created to keep the public informed about the need and benefit of donation. Most importantly the campaign kept the "face" of donation in front of the public to remind them of the actions they could take to support the cause which helped make organ, tissue and eye donation the widely accepted practice it is today.

This website is not meant to provide comprehensive information, rather to be a place where you can find links to answers, take action, and see the possibilities and actions Montanans are taking in addressing global warming. At present, this website is not complete but is an ongoing effort and will be changing itself keep pace with the everchanging impact of global warming.

GIVING UP FOSSIL FUELS IS HARD TO DO!

Fossil fuels contain an incredible amount of energy stored in a small volume. They have provided so much for me, my family, and practically every human being on this earth that we cannot even begin to enumerate the good that has come from them. The trips I have taken by plane, car, bus, motorcycle and bicycle have provided incredible experiences that have helped shape who I am. I LOVE WHAT FOSSIL FUELS HAVE GIVEN ME. HOWEVER........BURNING THEM TO EXTRACT THEIR GREAT POWER IS CAUSING LIFE THREATENING DAMAGE ON THIS EARTH. This is one hard pill to swallow but swallow it we must. The science is in and we Montanans must take action and do our part in addressing this growing crisis. VOTE! It does make a difference.
